Sorrento Fishing Charters is based at the southern end of the Mornington Peninsula, around 1.5 hours from Melbourne. From here, we fish the waters of Port Phillip Bay, The Rip and Bass Strait aboard Lady Timaru, our 41-foot Westcoaster.

Fishing Charters Near Melbourne

You don’t need to travel to the other side of Victoria for a proper day of fishing.

All our charters depart from Sorrento Pier on the Mornington Peninsula, making SFC an easy option for Melbourne locals, Peninsula visitors and anyone spending a few days down the coast.

Choose from 4, 5, 6 and 8-hour fishing trips, with the fishing grounds and target species changing with the season, weather and what’s biting best.

Port Phillip Bay Fishing Charters

Some of Victoria’s favourite fishing is right on our doorstep.

Our Port Phillip Bay charters target species including King George whiting, squid, snapper, flathead and Australian salmon.

The bay gives us plenty of options throughout the year and is ideal for families, first-timers and experienced fishos who simply want a good session on the water.

Bass Strait & Offshore Fishing Charters

When the weather plays ball, we head through Port Phillip Heads and into Bass Strait.

Our longer charters give us the time and range to explore offshore fishing grounds and target species including gummy shark, kingfish and Southern Bluefin tuna.

Offshore fishing is always weather dependent. If Bass Strait isn’t the right call on the day, we’ll adapt the trip and fish where the conditions and opportunities are best.

Shared Fishing Charters

Coming solo, as a couple or with a few mates?

Jump aboard one of our shared charters and fish alongside a small group without having to book the whole boat.

We supply the rods, reels, bait and tackle. You bring yourself, some food and drinks, and whatever fishing luck you’ve got.

Private Fishing Charters

Your crew. Your boat for the trip.

Private charters give your group exclusive use of Lady Timaru and are a great option for families, groups of mates, birthdays, work trips and special occasions.

Our private fishing charters include 10 guests, with the option to bring additional passengers up to our maximum capacity.

Kids Fishing Charters

Get them hooked early.

Our Kids Fishing Adventures are shorter trips within Port Phillip Bay, created specifically with younger fishos and their families in mind.

We keep it fun and hands-on, targeting accessible species such as squid, whiting, flathead and Australian salmon depending on what’s biting.

And because fishing isn't the only good bit about being on the water, we'll keep an eye out for seals, dolphins and other local marine life along the way.

Fishing the Mornington Peninsula

Sorrento puts us in a pretty special spot.

Head one way and we have the protected waters of Port Phillip Bay. Head the other and we’re through The Heads and into Bass Strait.

That means our fishing can change completely from one trip to the next, and that’s exactly how we like it. Snapper, whiting, squid, flathead, salmon, gummy shark, kingfish and tuna all feature throughout the year.

We don’t promise a particular fish. We fish the conditions, follow the seasons and give every trip our best shot.

Ocean Cruises from Sorrento

Not everything we do involves a fishing rod.

We also run private and shared ocean cruises from Sorrento, taking in the coastline, Port Phillip Heads and, when conditions allow, Bass Strait.
